The O R Tambo International Airport (formerly known as the Johannesburg International Airport) is Africa’s largest and busiest airport. The airport boasts of truly modern infrastructure with facilities on par with most major airports around the world. It services most of the world’s major airlines and acts as the gateway for both passengers and cargo to move in and out of southern Africa to and from all major destinations worldwide.
Most of the airports of the neighbouring countries of South Africa do not have the capacity nor infrastructure to handle large aircraft. Therefore, most of the cargo that moves into and out of southern Africa is through Johannesburg. Other international airports in South Africa are located in Cape Town and Durban. All three airports are currently undergoing huge expansion and infrastructure development to meet the demands of higher volumes of cargo and growing numbers of passengers. It is also gearing up to meet the needs of the 2010 Soccer World Cup, scheduled to be held in South Africa next June.
Afro Asian Logistics SA (Pty) Ltd., are actively involved in the movement of cargo in and out of the three major airports in South Africa.
